then you just didn't get it ... all the pathetic whining about the crudity etc. are really off the point ... this is a parody, a satire of great stature with terrific acting, singing and direction to boot ... while it includes all the usual suspects of the lesser modern slapstick, slapass comedies (in goofy but hilarious cameo roles), this by contrast is a real film with, of course, a supreme lead in john c. reilly ... his talent has shown elsewhere in many other difficult genres ("the hours","magnolia", etc.) ... and what a job with the musical play and demonstration of talent as well. kudos.
once again, to all you naysayers ... can you say satire? ... duh. there is a big difference between being childlike and childish ... this one calls for the former and it's sad for those who can't even figure that much out ... |
