Please read the book series and skip this movie. If it flops, perhaps it will be forgotten and they will remake it in the near future the way it SHOULD have been made.
The books deserve the same treatment lavished upon The Lord of the Rings trilogy, or even the Harry Potter series. Faithfulness to the works. Had the book been anything like this movie, I doubt it would be a movie today.
Just like the Lord of the Rings, it endured because of a unique story and fascinating charachters.
This movie was made by people who didn't care. The script writer TWICE decided that the book was not the kind of book he should be making into a script. I KNOW it wasn't, and I don't think he did. He wrote his own story and used someone else's Title and plot elements.
No one involved in the making of this movie cared about the book at all. Even the actor playing Merriman Lyon failed to even read the book his character is taken from! He said it was too "dense". For goodness' sake, it's a book for young adults!
This movie should have been done with respect for the source material. Instead, because it was written thirty + years ago, they decided no one cared about a good story and decided to go for the money instead. Shame on them. |
