For fans of Susan Cooper's The Dark Is Rising series this movie is at best a mocking, torturous bid to make a quick buck off of the beloved children's series. The lament of a fan of the source material aside, this movie gravely underestimates the audience.
Instead of staying true to the source material or even crafting a new story with the warmth and feeling of the books the film makers have instead decided to rely on overwrought special effects to keep the audience's attention. Sadly these are the same special effects (Matrix style camera movements, Snakes on a Plane type animal wrangling, and the digital ice-scapes of Day After Tomorrow) we have seen time and time again. I know of NO redeeming qualities for this movie. |
