I was concerned that I would end up disliking this movie given the venom with which some people reviewed it. In fact, had I not had a friend from Bruges, I probably would have passed given the extent to which some of the reviews complained of violence and treatment of women, dwarves, etc. I'm glad I did go, though, because it was great! It was very funny (provided you're not the type who takes yourself or the world around you too seriously). Politically incorrect? Yes. But really funny. And perhaps more importantly, not nearly as violent as some reviewers would like you to believe. I was expecting a bloodbath, but it was nothing of the sort. What killing took place was neither graphic nor gratutitous. Yes, I turned my head away at a couple of points, but mostly for no reason (and I'm squeamish). In any event, the dialog was great - funny, outrageous, over-the-top, and the story very good. In short, great fun. Don't let the fear mongerers dissuade you from taking a peek. You'll miss out on one of the more interesting movies in a while. And it's not just me speaking; the theater was sold out and laughter permeated the air the entire length of the film. Well, except until the end... |
