One shouldn't go to a Wes Anderson movie expecting a laugh fest. It ain't going to happen. There are funny moments, but Insofar as The Darjeeling Limited works, it works as an examination of family dynamics and a character study. The problem of course is that this sort of film doesn't necessarily make for easy viewing. The awkward silences between the characters ring true, but they also test one's patience. Most standard issue comedies of the past few years, however, have been such cookie cutter affairs that The Darjeeling Limited is an interesting change of pace. Works nicely as a travelogue through rural Inda as well. |
