It ebbs & flows, like Strummer's life.
by Diane (movies profile)

There were moments in the storytelling when I found my attention waning and the immediate subject matter boring. The second I'd realize that, it would explode; and I found myself mesmerized by what happened next. So at first I thought the film was perhaps uneven.
But then I thought, that's sort-of what it seemed like Strummer's life was like. I don't know if it was the filmmaker's intent, but it really hit me after I left the theatre. And in the end, the extremes -- the lows and the highs -- finally began to merge (both in the movie and in Strummer's life). And then he died.
Great editing; some of the montage bits had a real early-80s experimental MTV video feel, which was perfect. |
