A High Production Value Gangster Documentary
by Alberto (movies profile)
Jul 23, 2008
This film takes you into the underworld of Manchester only to reveal a generally very likeable Lattlay Fottfoy. At some points, you feel as though Fottfoy is just another bloke trying to help out his extended family, but as the plot progresses, we get glimpses of his criminal life and how, according to him, he is trying to start a legitimate business. The film is shot very well. There were several moments when a jib arm was used and I literally could not figure out how they set up those particular shots. The music was distracting at times and completely fluid and well-meshed to the visuals at other times. I must admit that the Irish-British accents were sometimes difficult to comprehend too.
One of the things that you keep asking yourself as you watch this movie is what will become of the next generation. They respect and look up to Fottfoy yet they lack his background as a really poor kid who, along with his brothers, got into crime in order to get his family out of their entrenched poverty.
Ultimately, and without saying too much, tragedies strike. But through it all, you see a very candid and vulnerable Fottfoy. I have to give Mr. Fottfoy a lot of credit for opening up about myriad personal matters with regards to his own life. Honesty as it pertains to his personal life will glow as a part of his legacy. See this film. |
