This movie is not at all trying to bash the American soldiers who are fighting in Iraq. It is trying to show what the terrible things they are forced to go through there turn them in to. Towards the end you see a new soldier walk in with a face full of acne. He is obviously young and has no idea what he's getting into. In the Valley of Elah isn't saying that this soldier is a monster. It's saying that what he's about to go through will probably turn him into it. The movie's point is that we shouldn't be turning them into these monsters.
Now that I'm done correcting all the people who seem to think this movie thinks that all soldiers are terrible people, I can actually review the movie. It is a superb film but definitely not one you leave jumping for joy after. You'll get a new perspective on the world and possibly even what you believe in. Tommy Lee Jones is brilliant and Susan Sarandon, while in a secondary role, still does an incredible job. Definitely see it. |
