I love summer superhero movies as much as almost anyone. But this one, this one caught me off-guard badly, this summer's new superhero is good...sort of.
Actually, Hancock is no ordinary superhero at all. This kind'a bum guy, gives a crap about anything, or how he gets the job done. He is drunk almost all the time, and has the ability to fly and has superstrentgh. That's Hancock. Pretty cool, egh?
Based on the trailers, the story gets its job done good. Up until the second half of the film there's quite a significant twist delivering a new plot to the movie. That is a big part of Hancock's flaws. The movie gets weaker everytime, and the action sequences get cheesier by the minute.
Smith is good; Hancock is different than most of the roles he has played and it almost feels like you're meeting him again with a different personality. Not very similar to the emotions and expressions he's worked on with his past characters. Jason Bateman acts almost like the guy played by Luke Wilson in "My Super Ex-Girlfriend", and Charlize Theron plays his wife, doing actually pretty good.
The effects were pretty cool, yet there was nothing really new there. Hancock looks a lot like a videogame animation when you see him flying from a third person view in the sky, and the storms were pretty fake, but the humor was fun, and the fighting was nice.
But as corny as the movie turned out to be, nothing is really going to stop him. Overall, Hancock is good ol' superhero fun. |
