Not many film charactors go gaga with appreciation for great literature. Thats what is refreshing about The Jane Austen Book Club. The movie is devoted to the love or reading and looks about what can be gained from the great literary writers such as Jane Austen. . Its great to see film charactors actually sit down and have an insightful conversation. Sure, the movie was a essentially predictable but wasn't Austen? Its also says a lot that still today people are just as engaged with the work of Austen as they were at the time the books were published.
The movie is filled with charming performances, such as Hugh Dancy, Mario Bello, and Kathy Baker and Emily Blunt fits the prudish Prudy perfectly. Above all this film makes one appriciate what one can gain from reading. |
