This film, or "scare candy" got me reeled in with its zealous reviews and diverse plot. It was compared to "Pulp Fiction" The film generally found another mask, and another knife to ruin my Halloween.
The story was thought-out to an extent. I was disappointed by the constant clichés. It was told through boring cinematography and cheesy acting. It was made for the people who can't tell well from bad. The plot got old and predictable and didn't live up to it's feign reviews.
The acting was horrid. I know it's hard to find young actors who will perform what you want, but a good director can help out. The only somewhat quality part was Anna Paquin, who has been in films for a long time, obviously showing no wearing with age. She made a bad choice for this film and her innocence in the role was well portrayed by her experience as an actress.
The only good part of this movie was the scene with the horror bus. The "special bus" scene was filled with creepy, and eeriness and the acting I felt was believable from the one kid with the Dracula mask. It was original and had a completely different feel. The cinematography in this scene was hugely great and I wish the whole film had that yellow tint, with smoke filled lighting. The screenshot of this scene was what I first saw of it when I heard of it at the Fantastic Film Fest'. It was one of the top 20 there for horror. They were sadly mistaken.
Though the film had its small successes, it was too cliché to enjoy, and to annoying to watch. So better luck next time Michael Doughtry. |
