Bloated Script drags it down

The one aspect that dragged the movie down is how the viewer is continually beaten over the head with social commentary that is just too heavy handed. In the original Living Dead, Romero casts a black man in the lead, ignoring the deeper implications by saying "he was the best actor we had." In Dawn we had the symbolism of the mall. We're not beat over the head with it the mall is just there, always the stark reminder of mass consumerism. Really well done social commentary whether intentional or not. But this time it's obvious that it is all too intentional and really gets in the way of the frights and zombie action. Word wise, there is just too much going on and it takes itself serious to a fault.

As for the zombie action, it's spot on. Still manages to shock accordingly with just the right gore effort without ever getting gratuitous.

Oh and filmmakers please please please end this stupid love affair with the shaky cam. Placed here and there it's effective. Having it through a whole movie is stupid and alienates part of your audience by giving them motion sickness. Yes amateur filmmakers have access to camera stablizing equipment. Get over it.
