I'm sorry, but I can't believe I waited six years for this to become a movie, and this is what comes out of it. I don't even remember most of the book, but I knew it was great, and that the movie felt rediculously half-assed compared to the book. It's full of cliches, is too short, had so much cut out, and has a stupid happy ending, which the book didn't have. They pretty much stripped the book of its soul. The movie also lacked the scope of the book. If it wasn't for the unique concept and the little bits of humor here and there, I would have written it off as another typical run-of-the-mill been there done that fantasy. There are better family movies out there too. On the positive side, everyone did a very good job acting and the CG effects were cool. But if you've read the book, chances are you will be very disappoited with this. |
