Horrible--from an Inkheart series book lover

(SPOILERS) I loved the book and it's premise--so why on earth would Cornelia Funke allow a screenwriter to slaughter it? And as much as I like Brendan Fraser, he was horribly miscast amongst a sea of stage-trained British actors and stood out like a sore thumb. I have two "main" gripes with this movie. One: why must there be a "completely" happy ending where everyone gets what they want? There wasn't in the book. However, the ending of this movie was tied up in a neat, happy, little bow which ended up negating Inkspell and Inkdeath completely. Two: what on earth was the screenwriter thinking to willfully discount one of the "rules" in C.Funkes world wherein only the original writer can change his/her story? I am referring to the scene when Meggie started writing her own ending to Inkspell (in the movie).
Bottom line: this movie was a horrible, uneven mess. It's quite obvious why they shelved it a year ago and only just released it now. |
