The joke is on Scorsese. The flick begins with some tribulation on the part of the Scorsese team about getting a song list in advance of the show to know where to have the cameras pan at concert's start. When Jagger flits onstage for Jumpin' Jack Flash, the point becomes moot: There ain't no predicting where the man will light next. Jagger maintains a superhuman pace throughout the concert. Nonetheless, the camera seems to catch every wag of his finger, shake of his booty and pout of his lips. We, the filmgoers, become voyeurs to the interactions between the musicians onstage, and seeing Ronnie and Keith bestow their guitars on Buddy Guy is the crowning jewel of this film. For all the Stones fans who have shelled the big bucks for a suboptimal seat to see them live, this is your chance. Jagger might complain that the lights are burning his expletive, but we are none the worse for the light that shines. Sit back and enjoy the show! |
