for me its really hard to review this movie...i could spend hours and hours going on about this movie but ill try to keep it somewhat short...
first of all, i have been waiting for another halloween movie just so that the last one that we would ever see wouldnt be Resurrection (cause that was pretty bad)...then i heard about this and was excited and praying that zombie wouldnt 'f' it up...
so i went to the midnight showing and here's what i thought...
the first half of the movie is actually pretty good...i was skeptical on how zombie was going to portray michael as a kid but he did a decent job with it...seeing michael as a kid was definitely kinda weird but you get to see him develop into the psychopath that he is...
its the second half of the movie that is the let-down...the movie flashes forward 15 years and we are introduced to adult michael who is played by tyler mane, who looks like he took a vacation from the wwe to be in this movie...mane didnt do a bad job as michael but michael is not supposed to be a giant in that sense...in this movie he looked more like jason vorghees (and he acted more like jason too)...
then comes the remake aspect of the movie...which was like watching the original in fast-forward...this movie probably could done without this entire part and kept with establishing itself as a prequel and been much better off...what would have been cool is that the movie did maintain itseld as a prequel and ended with a build-up to what is the original movie, that could have been really interesting...
but anyways, we are introduced to laurie, annie, and linda who i thought were terrible...they actually make you glad they are being hunted because even with their short screen time, make the most of it to annoy the crap out of you...
so michael goes on to kill and kill and we are led up to the 'climax' of the movie which was pretty weak as well...im not going to give anything away but to me it really something that i was on the edge of my seat for...
overall i thought this movie was ok...of course it didnt compare to the original but its better then some of the sequels (especially 5 and 8)...unfortunately, the movie really isnt all that scary but it is very brutal...when thinking of this movie, you have to set it aside from all of the previous halloween (as is the same with batman begins from the other batmans) because while all of the characters are the same, this movie just presents a different feel to halloween... |
