Since when is "normal" a negative?

Ok, I get that some of the critics didn't like this movie because, in their words, it's "sappy," "boring," yada yada yada. And the only person they like was the airheaded teenage daughter with the hormones because she misbehaves the worst and makes you wanna' lock her away in her room? Wellll....when the "professional" critics feed me that garbage, that means it's bound to be good, clean entertaining fun. I'm there!
I'm thinking these so-called critics prefer "real" movies that "make us care about their characters" by turning everyone in a large family into coke-snorting pot-heads that get drunk and beat their spouse and kids, sleep around, maybe even plot a juicy contract murder of their spouse. Yeah, right. That's not manipulating an audience in any way, shape, or form, is it? And it definitely makes me "care about the characters." Care about how quickly I can get out of the theater and get them out of my mind!
Come on, get real. This movie is about a (pretty much) normal family who genuinely care about each other, feel comfortable in each others' company, don't require high-dollar entertainment to have fun, and you don't feel like you need to rush home and jump in the shower to get the smutty language and spectator-sport sex out of your head after you leave. The characters are normal. They are likeable....heck, downright lovable....and the story is as old as time. A good, old-fashioned love story with funny twists and turns on the way to the altar. Unless you're into that coke-snorting type family, you're gonna love this movie! |
