Unfortunately, the current "3:10 To Yuma" is more of a comment on Hollywood's psychological state than it is a reflection of the original, tight story. In the original (made twice into movies previously), the good guy never bothers to explain why he is taking the bad guy in - there is no need. In this version, he does it to get some money for his sick kid, pay his mortgage, prove his manhood, etc. In other words, not because it is the right thing to do - for Hollywood, no one acts because it is right. Indeed, the moment our "hero" leaves those other reasons behind he <spoiler coming> gets shot full of holes. I think it is beyond a Hollywood writer's imagination that someone would do something simply because it is the right thing to do. On top of that; the psychopath has a heart of gold and puts himself on the train so the good guy "wins;" the avowed Christian participated in a slaughter of women and children; all the lawmen can be bought; there are no war heroes; etc. All of this is counter to the original story, the other movies, and, in fact, history. "The best western since 'Unforgiven'"? Sure, since there haven't been any since then.
