Massive improvement on the Lester version eliminating all of the camp. The tone of Superman: the movie was restored. the only issue with this version was a little continuity and a few holes...which you can't blame Donner since he was unable to complete the movie he wanted and was stuck with lester footage.
i loved the fact that the scene where Lois finds out that Clark is Superman was so important to Donner that they used a screen test of it to get it in. (notice clark's glasses frames change when they go from 2 shots to close ups....it is funny).
Donner put his heart and soul into Superman 1 and 2 close to 30 years ago and was cheated out of his vision for part 2 for a dimestore version by a comedic director. It is so satisfying that we are able to experience his superior vision....well almost. |
