Not bad, though not linear
by Lord Durden (movies profile)
Jul 11, 2008
To be honest, I saw this knowing very little about Roman to begin with. I knew of him, just not about him.
I didn't leave feeling disappointed, though I felt like it was lacking a little bit. There were times where the director/editor wanted to tie emotions together (his wife being murdered with his assault case), but they happened a good time apart. It was hard to connect the dots when the dots were 8 years apart.
I also felt like there was a lot of focus on the trial itself and not much on Roman during that time. They spent time on the judge and victim (though I thought the shots with her and her lawyer looked overly staged - she is not 15 anymore, she doesn't need a legal guardian), but the information on Roman was vague. It wasn't until after the trial that the went back to him as a person.
Overall, it was very informative and "behind the scenes". The original interviews were interesting and I especially liked the fact that they didn't just hype him up after 45 minutes of discussion about him raping a 15 year old. It left the floor open for discussion and I felt it was fair to both parties. Not a bad way to learn some history. |
