For a movie that I had hoped would be amazing, it wasn't. It didn't change my life and I wont convert to any strange religion. What it did do was send me into a good story of a simple parting congressman from texas, that just by chance ended the cold war. Its full of political humor and quick lines. It does little, if anything to make any agenda driven statement at all, which in itself was refreshing. The acting was, as you might guess with the cast (Hanks, Roberts, and Hoffman) outstanding. I didn't feel that the direction was anything special. Some of the scenes were awkward and some, okay most, of the visuals were the same, with better direction and special effects (in the few places it needed it) this movie could have been in contention for best picture.
Overall it is a movie worth paying $10 to see. It made me (as I am only 21) very much more aware of the history of the middle east and its involvement in the cold war, and no wonder they dont like us much. Any way the move was exceptional very worth seeing, and if you dont want to shake hands with the real Charlie Wilson you should check your pulse. |
