The Visitor is a rare jewel among mediocrity in today's films. It captures the viewer's interest from the beginning and holds tight, leading you forward and wondering what will become of this pathetic man. Walter is pathetic only because fortune has not smiled on him. As a piano teacher, I sympathized with his attempt to learn. Walter did not relate to the paino just I have never really found expression within the keys. The drums (my son is a drummer) released his inner feelings. It gave him the opportunity to express his grief and anger. Anger? Yes. Life had taken everything. The movie was essentially about the loss of love. One may lose a fortune. But to lose love is to have lost all. |
