Nothing to do with History at all!

This movie, and the book that is it's namesake are both horrible misrepresentations of historical events. Almost everything in this movie is completely twisted or just plain made-up!
Mary was older than Anne and was a well known wh*re. She had slept with the king of France and then been passed around the court before coming to the English court. (In fact, she was sent away from the French to the English before Anne and began her affair with Henry almost immediately). Her son is thought by absolutely no noteworthy historian to be the kings, and her affair with the king was over long before Anne became involved with him.
Anne and Henry truly did have a passionate love affair, and greed was not the chief reason for her assent. She was actually a brilliant woman ahead of her time, and not the one-dimensional character portrayed in this film. Anne was not thought to be guilty of any of the charges against her by ANY of her contemporaries - even the citizens who hated her protested her conviction.
Henry actually did have a brain and was more than a skirt-chaser who angrily stomped from one room to the next. He did manage to keep a volatile country at peace where civil war was a thought in the back of every man's head.
So, while the costumes were cute I thought the movie was a gross perversion of history and that it is a shame that millions of people will now believe it is what happened. |
