Historically Inaccurate But Good Overall

This movie never made it to theaters in my city, so I couldn't wait for the DVD to come out. When it finally did, I was somewhat disappointed.
Not that it's a bad movie. I actually liked it overall. But to fully appreciate it, you must totally disregard its historical inaccuracy and try to appreciate it for the story itself.
Although the acting was good, Guy Pearce was too harsh of a Houdini. Again, it's fiction, so I can forgive him for it. But Pearce's interpretation gave Houdini a potty mouth and other traits that don't come close to reflecting the real person.
Anyway, this film is definitely worth watching, but if you're a Houdini purist, try to suspend your disbelieve and forget history as you watch. If you do that, you'll probably enjoy the movie at least as much as some previous Houdini movies. |
