Drillbit Taylor is a movie that is good for giving you a few cheap laughs and not much else. It follows the same formula most movies do. It follows the exact same formulas that most movies presents and gets to be rather predictable.
The movie primarily relies on sophmoric humor and for the most part it accomplishes that. The jokes often rely on groin and body punches with a paper-thin story in between to move the movie along. Owen seemed a little out of character as a bum and often times there are moments in the movie that will make you say "give me a break". Some of the teenagers don't come of as being more than a stereotype.
There are some redeeming features to this that prevents me from giving it a failing grade. There are moments when I really laughed. The geeks acted like geeks and the sociopathic bully really looked the part. I never felt like I was truly enjoying myself however.
This is the type of movie I wouldn't recommend shelling out 10 bucks for. This is the type of movie to rent at blockbuster when there's a deal on. There's enough to make you laugh at a few parts but not enough to justify taking this movie over other, more polished, comedys. |
