Who do paid critics represent?

I'll get this rant out of the way first, the critics that are supposed to offer a yea or nay to the common viewer rarely seem to be tuned in to what movie-goers actually like to watch. Their job is like a weather man, except they get to forecast after it happens, and they still get it wrong. Anyway, I went into this movie with low expectations. I thought Apatow and crew might be spreading themselves too thin given the sheer volume of movies being pushed out. I was proven very wrong. Owen is on top of his game, the lovable screw-up archetype he has perfected. The kids were surprisingly well-placed. It seemed a bit like Superbad: Freshman year, except with heart. All I'm saying is if the choice is falling between this and Stop-Loss, don't side with the critics. |
