Heston's Omega Man meets Hank's Cast Away ......

.......Presented by the Ford Motor Company. The first 7 minutes of the film are a commercial for Ford Mustangs. Ford showcases other vehicles throughout.
For 40 something adults like myself, we may remember The Omega Man with Charleston Heston. The script is almost exact. However, what is different is you feel how alone The Omega Man is, more like Tom Hanks did in Cast Away.
This Omega is updated with CGI Zoombie type creatures instead of 'evil' Albinos (Probably a PC move. Why are Albino people always evil?)and a pet dog instead of a volley ball. Smith talks to himself endlessly, just like Hanks did in cast Away.
The CGIs were OK, but at the same time nothing that hasn't been seen before. The movies Serenity, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, etc, all have similar CGI human-type zoombie creatures, The super human strength of the CGI's was over the top. They were more scary when they were sleeping.
It wasn't the worst remake I have ever seen. It was far from the best though. There were parts that just really dragged on. There were some other parts added to make it more of a tragedy.
If you have seen the Omega Man, if you have seen Cast Away, you have seen this movie. If you haven't seen these movies, you may like this version. Smith does a decent job for what there was.
If someone would have told me what it was about, I would have gone to see it if I had an afternoon to kill. I wouldn't go out of my way for it. |
