Then I Found This Movie Playing in Pittsburgh!

After listening to her interview on National Public Radio, I knew I had to see this film. Helen Hunt is a genius and so very generous with her portrayal of a Kindergarten teacher going through hell and yet being so very funny and human! Thank goodness Hunt also had the vision to cast Colin Firth as "Frank" and Bette Midler as her biological mother..
Firth offers an Oscar-worthy performance as a man emotionally broken and flawed, yet willing to enter into a relationship with the teacher who is going through so much in a small time frame.
Midler brings hilarious viewpoints and falsehoods that add to the unfolding story of how and why she would have given her child up for adoption...
Much has been said about Hunt's stark appearance, however, that vividly shows her generousity to allow the audience to see her character as "bare to her bones" (literally). Great ending and great story.
It was definitely worth the three hours and 120 miles of driving to see it in Pittsburgh! |
