Having seen the previews, I decided this was a movie for the ladies but not for guys like me. Persuaded by my wife and friends on a rainy July 4th (largely because one or another of us had already seen what else was playing locally), we went to see Evening.
What a surprise. I loved the movie . . . and, at some points near the end I was moved to tears, something I have not done at the movies in decades.
I think the movie has much food for thought. Some ambiguities leave the viewer with room for imagination and post-viewing discussion with friends. And, I think most of us past 30 can relate to making decisions that, for better or worse, are life altering. But Evening suggests -- whatever the decisions and whatever the consequences -- there are no mistakes.
The acting was excellent all around, the characters quite believable, the setting magnificent, and the musical score set the emotional tone without being distracting or imposing. |
