I expected better

I watched a screening of Death Sentence last night and was disappointed. I hate it when Hollywood tries to make gangsters. They need to realize that gangs can be in the hundreds and the majority are the same nationality. In this movie you have a gang with about 8 members. All rocking the fake tribal tatoos and driving around in two beefed up Malibus and wearing the latest threads. You have a black, white and brown gang members all together. I mean, come on now. When have you ever seen that? This reminded me of the movie Colors with Sean Penn and the gang 21st street. I think Hollywood needs to look up some old movies like Boulavard Nights, American Me, Menace II Society to really see how gangsters are to appear.
Now the movie. Story was a bit slow. It's as if the director couldn't decide whether to go action or drama. I'll admit the action was good, but the story seemed to drag a bit. The acting was blah. John Goodman and Kevin Bacon could have done better. I like Kevin in Stir of Echos and Hollow Man but not in this movie. There was one scene that reminded me of Taxi Driver with Robert De Niro. If you see Death Sentence you'll understand what I'm saying. You know, the famous scene when De Niro shaves his head. This movie has something like that in it. Didn't seem original. It only reminded me of Britney Spears when she shaved her head. The best part of the movie was the last 20 minutes when all the major action takes place. The director of Saw directed this movie and I was able to catch a little easter egg in this movie. Pay attention to the graffiti on the wall. You'll see a familiar face. I was expecting to really like this movie only because I can relate on how the father feels after losing his son. But the acting and the story fell short.
Other than that I'm done.
Wait for this movie on rental night. |
