Where did the Chem-trails come from?

This film deserves an "A". However, I believe the year is 1885. So where did the Chem-trails come from?
The acting by missy was very good. I really liked the ending where Evil Dad is shown to be a liar by his own daughter (thus saving her boyfriend from a fate with the gallows.)
