First, I tend to be conservative and certainly not a Bush hater. I tend to see a lot of liberal propagana films both to get an idea of other points of view and also to have things to bitch about (See my review for Why we Fight or Farenheit 9/11). That said, I didn't hate this movie.
This movie, unlike much of the left wing psuedo documentaries that are out there, gives as balanced of view of things as possible while still making its political views known. That is all I ask for in a political film, but something that has been missing recently.
In the beginning, we see the hatred towards Bush through the eyes of law enforcement, which actually casts a bad light on the protestors. The movie spends most of its time justifying a lot of the actions of the Administration, including the Patriot Act, over the last few years. Of course the end takes brings us full circle, but I was expecting that.
With all of the above out of the way, the movie was slightly entertaining. It is not for everyone. Other than being grossly exploitative, it was like watching Fox News for 1 hour and CNN for the other 33 minutes. At times, it seemed as if it was never going to end. This, however, worked really well for what the film was trying to be. It was realistic enough to make you believe that you were actually watching real events.
In the end, the movie is what it is. Most likely you will hate it because of the premise, hate it because of the format, find it midly interesting as a novelty, or love it because of your crazy political views. The most glaring recommendation that i can give is "I didn't hate it"
P.S. Long live President Cheney! |
