more suspense/thriller than horror genre

If you gauge your opinion of horror films based on the degree of blood, guts, and gore they attempt to pile into a film (see Hills Have Eyes II 2007) then you'll be disappointed. If you prefer to have a more storyline specific script, than this is closer to your liking. However, I do feel the film had more of a suspense/thriller feel to it throughout rather than the horror genre classification - this distinction can be a big factor in whether or not you will feel it fulfills the expectations of your trip to the Theatre.
The movie starts off a bit slow, and the reasoning behind this couples issues frankly hardly matters, they could be out this way (middle of nowhere) for countless reasons, but they wanted us to understand our intrepid, soon to be victimized, pair. Wish they would've given us a tad more background on our villains, by way of explanation while into the mayhem as to how/why (beyond the fetish/greed angle - don't want to give things away here) our cast of characters got started in their activities.
Cliche' is a staple of this genre, and they are there, however, I did not get the constant thoughts of materials having been directly removed from the countless other offerings that have come before this. At one point "House Of Wax" popped into my mind, but for the most part they did a fair job in providing a fresh (well, at least not beaten to death) on screen activity. Unless you've seen less than 12 entire horror films in your entire life, you've got to expect a degree of predictability, and yes it is, but all-in-all it is not bad (and most any film these days that says "horror" as any part of its description has been pretty darn bad these last few years).
Could it be better, sure, could it be worse, yes by a long shot. Your mood is going to factor in a lot as to whether you are going to enjoy this film.
