Not Quite a 'Wonderland' of a Movie
by WilliamP (movies profile)
Nov 23, 2007
STORY: A pair of crooks loses their money, and two kids find it, and go on the shopping spree of their lives. But the money turns out counterfeit, and the cops get involved (and man, are they stupid in this movie). The story doesn’t just roll in the moola, it rolls around in the Christmas-cliché and one-too-many-slapstick-scenes.
ACTING: Lousy and sarcastic—the kids act like spoiled adults, and the adults act like spoiled children. But hey—it's supposed to be a dumb comedy, so, whatever.
DIRECTION: Whoever directed this evidently thought taking 'Home Alone' and 'Unaccompanied Minors' and mashing them together would be great. Clearly not.
...But for the director’s sake, I will say that even for as stupid as a movie as this, at least it didn’t land flat on it’s face in idiocy.
VISUALS: A man falls through a window, people fall three stories into a pool, things go boom, pop, zap…the visuals aren’t anything to wow over, but they fit the film’s slapstick feeling respectively.
SO, GO SEE IT? To go and see it at the cinema would be a waste of one’s Christmastime, even if they had one million dollars in counterfeit cash to throw around. The movie 'Millions' is much better if your interested (Which is essentially the same as this movie, except much better executed). If, next Christmas, the DVD’s out and you want a movie that’ll amuse the kids, pick it up. It’s a pointless, on the rare occasion funny flick. |
