Was a bit concerned after seeing Ebert's review, but he obviously was busy writing his review during the movie. Most of his complaints with the plot were from not paying attention. It was explained why it was necessary to parachute onto the drilling platform. No one counted one, two, three during a space battle...the helmsman was merely reading a countdown off the computer as to when the ship would come out of warp. And no Star Trek ship ever made it to another galaxy; the nearest one is millions of light years away. None of the battles ever took place at faster than light speeds...only after coming out of warp were any battles engaged. The movie certainly had it's flaws, and Star Trek science has always been make believe. Still, if you are paid to watch movies, you think you could do a bit more research and pay better attention. |
