The movie has haunting scenes and terribly disturbing images - characters are well crafted and there's a genuine sense of injustice when they don't make it.
A strong performance by Robert Carlisle, who does not water down his Scottish accent for the role - all credit to the director for allowing this. You root for him and sympathise with his struggle.
I'd discount any suggestion of parallels with Iraq, though there are strong undertones of moral ambiguity with the American occupation of London and the response to the outbreak.
The final scene is funny for American & British people alike...I won't give it away. Even if you find flaws in the movie, you'll get your $10 worth for sure. |
