As a fan of Washington's movies, Gangster was a must see. I saw it at an early premiere and walked out of the theatre refreshed by its simplicity and originality.
First and Foremorest, this is not FFC's Godfather, but Scott's interpretation of an African-American's "American Dream," not a Scicilians one.
The story resembles a conventional drug dealers rise to fame and fall to ashes. What makes Gangster stand out is the suberb acting given by Washington and Crowe.
Here, there are no rappers trying to act as gangsters, (there is one, but is shot as soon as he gets annoying)and no protracted execution scenes. Gangster is face paced yet long in its 2 hour, 28 minute running.
Out of the other three movies released, Gangster is the more rewarding experience because the movie does make some message.
I won't spill details, but if you're looking for a movie that thrills, and has texture, go see American Gangster
