I understand the storyline of Barbara who ends up marrying well and then has a son with her husband Brooks. The son happens to be gay and causes a lot of complications in Barbara's marriage from infidelity, exposing the luty and greedier side of the upper class, and showing the inner mind games most of the people play.
The sad fact of the matter is, sometimes it is difficult to watch Julianne Moore on screen. Keep in mind this is not a bad thing, in fact it maybe that she is so good at her portryal of this real life woman, that she was hard to take sometimes. The scene where Barbara starts to unravel the upper classes seedier side with lusty afffair secrets pouring out at the seams. But overall I am really impresed with this film, it sort of reminds me of the combination of films Wilde, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, with a touch of A Genderals Daughter (in the sense both main characters are trapped in societies they can' escape for many reasons.) |
