Creeped the hell out of me last night.

Not since I had seen Neil Jordan's d "In Dreams" had I not been able to sleep. There was something inherently creepy about Robert Downey's performance in that film and the visual style...
But watching The Abandoned last evening left me with a pit in my stomach. It was such a beautifully crafted narrative. Home is where the heart is. Plain and simple. But certain scenes, visually, they messed me up. Even during the climax, I remembered Scott's take on 'Hannibal' and his use of the boars, but the shot of the boar in this film, slowly rounding corner, I was like...'#$%^' here we go. Being a fan of Nacho's previous effort...Aftermath, this film met all of my expectations and established the man himself as a force to be reckoned with. Welcome to Hollywood, Mr. Cerda. It's time you stepped into the ring with these hacks like Eli Roth and show how us how to craft a bone-chillingly scary film. Two severed thumbs up! |
