As a sniper I have always been very critical about movies that portray snipers, especially when one makes a head shot at 1000 yards with a rifle/scope set-up that is incapable of making a body shot at half that distance. Wahlberg wanted to properly portray a Marine Scout Sniper, so he received training at a well-respected firearms instruction school (Front Sight in Nevada) in an effort to do it right. I think he did a pretty good job.
Would I change anything? Sure, but the movie was good entertainment at the very least. I hope to see more movies about Bob Lee Swagger. He was a patriotic American who was used by people whom he should have been able to trust. Those critics who bleat about "Shooter" being too militant or idealistic fall in line with those limp-wristed, slack-jawed sheep who have never experienced the fear and ferocity of a firefight and think that violent adversity can be rectified with compromise and Peter, Paul, and Mary songs. |
