This beautifully made film brings both die-hard Joy Division fans and new/soon-to-be fans closer to the force behind Joy Division's lead vocalist. The film stays true to the book penned by Ian's widow and offers the viewer a spectacular visual poem of love, dedication to craft and inner demons. It is the best rock bio-pic I have seen in a very long time. Not only does it avoid making Ian a commodity but it preserves the respect and admiration music fans have for him. I am not a big fan of Anton's music videos as they never tell a story nor are visually impacting, but with the right screenplay guiding him, he produced a standing work of art with Control. |
