"Resurrecting the Champ" was not exactly what I was expecting. I was expecting the movie to be more about boxing, while it focused more on journalism instead. Now, this is far from a bad thing. I actually found Hartnett's storyline to be more interesting than Sam Jackson's.
The performances in this movie were fantastic. Sam Jackson turns in his best dramatic performance ever. He blends into the character so well. Hartnett also did a great job. I have actually liked Hartnett's recent films. I was one of the few people who really liked "The Black Dahlia." I thought Dahlia was originally Hartnett's best performance, but he easily beats it this time around. Both performances are oscar-worthy.
The story was a bit slow, but I thought it worked very well because it let the drama build. This film was also very similar to the film "Shattered Glass" starring Darth Vader...I mean Hayden Christensen. But I actually found this movie to be a lot more interesting. While the film isn't perfect, the performances alone make this film worth seeing. |
