I have been sucked in to too many of these overhyped European "art" films over the years. I guess I am a sucker for them. However, this one really irritated me. The movie was incessantly slow, with many wordless scenes of scenes of few words, and even less emotion. Also, as seems to be the standard in all ensemble films in this generation of films (Think, Knocked Up), the entourage is way more entertaining if not full of contrived good--or not so good--nature ribbing among themselves.
The acting was wooden and uninspired. Furthermore, I was very disappointed in an alleged sophisticated European film that employed the same shallow gay and racist "jokes" we've become accustomed to in American films. If you really want to watch a film like this, I'd recommend any Jonah Hill movie where atleast the childish jokes are in a language easy on the ears. Norwegian is not exactly an elegant language to a foreigner. All in all, an utter disappointment. |
