Very Norweigian. Go see it anyway!

Well, I am nearly 60 and so was the woman I went with. This is more about being a young writer, relationships, and schizophrenia in a European 20 something crowd, but we both loved it. The story is not always linear and some conversations are cleverly filmed so body movements don't necessarily match the timing of the words spoken so it has an artsy film festival feel. But my guess is it does very well at any film festivals it enters. I don't usually like punk rock music but I even thought the music was good. That one of the young writers becomes hospitalized and put on Seroquel and then has to reinvent the relationship with the girl friend who he had obsessed about before gives you a realistic look at the struggles someone who is bright and has a mental illness deals with, as well as what those around him have to deal with. There are so many themes woven together in quite an effective way, it makes you realize how simple minded so many films (despite such huge budgets)are that we normally get to see, and long for the intelligence of foreign films. Not much PR about his film and only a few in the theatre when we saw it. Please go see it so we continue to get excellent foreign films here. You won't be sorry. |
