Being a surfer and loving the image of the stereotype lifestyle, I went in to this movie thinking that this icon would be an outlet for my vicarious desires. Instead, the director seem to be more interested in focusing on Doc’s personal idiosyncrasies and in somewhat disturbing behavior. I for one love to see alternative lifestyles and the fact people can live happily outside the box, but that never came across in this film. It seem more a detail of the odd things he does as opposed to why he does them. Consequently, I felt the film had little to offer in “knowing†Doc and would be a turn off as to the belief this alternative lifestyle would make someone happy – including Doc. |
