Being a Chiwetel fanatic, it's fairly obvious that I would love this movie, but moreover, being a D.C. native and remembering the days when Petey Green used to walk my neighborhood door-to-door doing his voter registration speeches, I was just a little disappointed that some of those stories didn't get told. Yes he cursed on the air at a time when that created scandal, and yes Petey Green was waaaay over the top to most but what I remember is that when he came to my neighborhood and my mother had invited him into our humble abode for a rest, he accepted. He sat there in a relatively low-budget living room doing his level best to educate my entire family on the importance of community building, voting, and by extension nation building, and political action for social change. Neither of my parents ever graduated high school, so this grass roots action by this "shock jock" made a great impact on my parents as well as on me as a 6 or 7 year old kid growing up in S.E. Washington, D.C in the late 60s. We LOVED Petey Green. The entire community loved him. He always made sure to walk among us and not above us despite his rising celebrity. I never forgot those early experiences and radio shows, which we listened to at home religiously. We did have a TV but would turn it off to listen to Petey Green as what he said was immediate. I would later go on the UC Berkeley and major in Political Science and Development.

In any case, the movie tribute to Petey Green's life barely scratched the surface. It would have needed to be several hours longer to tell his whole story, but it was a fine tribute to the man who, despite some personal flaws, was a genuine human being and dared to make a difference on the ground when doing that was dangerous and punishable by death and imprisonment(See MLK or MX) in our own US of A.
