I can't understand why there are so many negative reviews. They aren't eloquently written; they don't come to decisive, lucid conclusions: I think they're paid reviews.
Nevertheless. I was told the book was better, as a semi-crucial piece of the plot had to be removed for the film. The film does explain Hannibal's cannibalistic urges, which also accounts for his killings. Really, it covers everything one would expect a feature-length film to cover. It can't follow him into the doctor's chair as he's working with Buffalo Bill.
The acting was superb. Gaspard Ulliel was excellent as Hannibal, though he might not be working much in the States: his smirk--probably what got him the role--is unnerving. Gong Li was excellent, though she was playing a Japanese and is clearly Chinese. And, really, the rest of the cast seems to be foreign as well.
Overall, a good film worth the admission. |
