As a projectionist, I got to see this movie in a private screening, after building it up. I felt compelled to offer a review.
The original movie was a masterful thriller, in the style of Hitchcock, leaving your imagination to fill in most of the more horrifying parts. It was brilliantly executed and the acting, while at parts a bit canned, came across as at least genuine.
This revisioning is absolutely nothing like that. In the style of the 80s slasher films, it instead relies on excessive bloody scenes, unbelievably idiotic behavior, and otherwise senseless carnage.
Sean Bean actually seemed to try to pull off his role, but he sadly fell short from the mark. I think it was, perhaps, the needless gore that detracted from his performance. The other 'stars' of this film fell so short of the mark they barely even warrent mentioning.
Save your money. Go rent the original. |
