Time for an Honest Review

I know that everyone under a certain age feels the inexplicable need to either trash or worship everything they review. I tend to disregard all A reviews and all F reviews and look at the reasonable reviews in between. Unfortunately, that is the generation in which we live. The internet is the haven of extremist ... well, anyway, on to the review.
The plot is another fractured fairy tale which is starting to become somewhat cliche, but given the number of cliche movies in EVERY genre, it is hardly reason to condemn this movie outright. The plot itself concerns Cinderella's mother who steals a magic wand that insures happy endings. Now she hopes to insure unhappy endings. Our heroes must recover the wand and save the day.
On an entertainment level, the movie does begin rather slow, and our hero is not the most likeble guy in the world, I admit, but moving beyond that this is a fairly enjoyable family affair on the same line as Hoodwinked, but not as good. I do consider this better than a number of forgettable animated films from last year, but not as good as Cars, Over the Hedge, or Hoodwinked (all from last year), so take that for what it is worth. If you enjoy animated family films, this is probably an enjoyable 90 minutes, if it is not your favorite genre, wait for DVD, but ignore the trash critics.
I enjoy animated films so I give it a B. Others might fairly rate it a C+ or B-. For me it was enjoyable, but not great. |
