I don't normally write in these reviews but I had to write here in case TP is reading. My husband and I saw this film and in our typical post viewing "debrief" agreed that the plot was underdeveloped, the characters were underdeveloped and there was just not enough meat there to allow you to fully connect with the characters or the story. I understood where TP was trying to go but the gap between intent and execution was vast. The acting talent of Gabrielle and Idris were in my opinion the only saving graces of this film. There were many inconsistencies, i.e. the big dangerous fire of which there was no evidence in later scenes, the lawyer who was just straight "fiyah" in the courtroom that did not make an effort to research why the Idris character was arrested for rape, but instead found out via the nightly news...and on and on...TP we can't just keep putting films out with the expectation that the "folks" will support them simply because they are "black films" we have to remember EXCELLENCE. I am strongly opposed to bootlegging of any type of copyrighted media, but knowing what I know now, this is one that I would have at least waited to rent at blockbuster. TP, keep doing what you're doing but remember that our stories are worthy of EXCELLENCE not mediocrity. |
